Eking Out an Existence Part 3

Miniscule. That’s what we are. I pray for a more advanced species to arrive. In order that they blow the lid off of our egotistical self-righteousness. In the hopes that they destroy our conception of universal supremacy. We are the “biggest”, and most numerous fish in a very small fish-bowl, which just happens to be floating in an infinite ocean. We are bound to be investigated at some point.

Our own limited scope of reality, due in part to a lack of competition, has created a deep-rooted complacency. If we knew we would be battling for our survival with a powerful foe in the near or even distant future, I am positive that society would be far differently oriented than it is today. Why is it that we don’t seek to expand our race to its pinnacle as quickly as possible? Because there is no sense of urgency. We are at the top of the food chain in our world, and that’s all that matters to us.

We are content with being an evolutionary anomaly amongst our animal cousins. Our large brains have allowed us to escape the natural exposure to the elements in which we should be immersed. They have given us the capabilities to survive in every possible climate, and in conditions in which we should surely cease to exist. The comforts of our modern life will eventually lead to our demise. Our overproduction, overconsumption and excessive harvest of all of mother nature’s gifts will be our downfall. There will be nothing left. And we will be incapable of surviving the planetary atmosphere which we have created through our own self-destructiveness. We will destroy the very womb from which we have sprung.
